Application process to deliver an ERS Spirometry Training Programme
All applications are reviewed by the HERMES Spirometry working group and course approval is granted to the spirometry trainer who has completed the ERS Spirometry Train-the-Trainer programme. It is the responsibility of the trainer to complete the application, and strictly follow the guidelines for successful delivery of the ERS Spirometry Training Programme and awarding of the ERS Spirometry Driving Licence.
How can I become a ERS Spirometry Trainer for my country?
Step 1 - Register for the HERMES ERS Spirometry Train-the-Trainer programme
It is mandatory to attend the spirometry train-the-trainer before applying to deliver and award the European Spirometry Driving Licence in your country. See Spirometry Train-the-Trainer for course and registration information. Please note that the registrations for the Train the Trainer course during the ERS congress 2016 in London are now open.
Step 2 - Assess if one's experience and skills closely match the ideal qualifications
- Certified degree in respiratory physiology or a related field
- Experience in procedures and instrumentation for spirometry testing
- Experience in interpretation of spirometry
- At least 5 years experience in the supervision of a pulmonary function laboratory or extensive spirometry service
- It is mandatory that the programme director has attended the HERMES train-the-trainer programme
Step 3 - Application to deliver an ERS Spirometry Driving Licence
To apply to deliver an ERS Spirometry training programme and award participants with the ERS Spirometry Driving Licence a number of steps must be followed:
Carefully read the attached the Guidelines for the certification of ERS Spirometry training programmes. Completed applications should be submitted at least 12 months prior to the proposed start date
Each application must include a
- Completed application form
- Application fee of €350
- Faculty details: a completed Spirometry CV for each Faculty member
- Venue details and dates of the event
Guidelines for certification of ERS Spirometry Training Programmes
A number of essential specifications required to deliver an ERS spirometry training programme are listed in the guidelines. For those course directors who agree to follow the guidelines and complete the application form according to these guidelines, ERS will endorse the educational programme and merit successful participants from their course with the ERS Spirometry Driving Licence.
It is strongly recommended that all faculty members attend the ERS Spirometry Train-the-Trainer programme.
